Exeter has many of the well-known national stores like John Lewis, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Waterstones and Apple. There are also a number of delightful small boutiques, some great food outlets, delicatessens and award-winning restaurants and specialist shops.

It is often the smaller independent shops in a town or city that signal its character and Exeter is fortunate in having a culture where creative small businesses thrive.  Seek out independent stores in Gandy Street, South Street, Magdalen Street and Fore Street in particular. You will find a growing number of Vintage shops, local craftspeople and jewellers.  Go to Exeter Quayside too where antiques shops sit side by side with local crafts, gastro-pubs and cafes.  Exeter Trails are guides to different sectors within Exeter’s independent businesses.

Plans for a new IKEA store on the outskirts of Exeter have been approved and this store will open in the spring of 2018.
