Job Placement Summary:

Liveable Exeter is Exeter’s Transformational Housing programme – seeking to deliver up to 12,000 new homes on a series of brownfield sites within the city whilst also creating successful and enhanced places where people can live, work, play and learn. The programme seeks to support Exeter in the realisation of its 2040 Vision and on its 2030 net-zero carbon ambitions.

An opportunity exists for a motivated individual to join the Liveable Exeter team in an entry-level role in order to support the Liveable Exeter project team in progressing proposals for the Liveable Exeter sites.

The role would suit a candidate with a degree level qualification in a built environment specialism – such as planning, property, architecture, engineering or environmental studies – but applications from others with an interest in the built environment would also be welcome. The role is likely to be of interest to those seeking to progress in a professional role within a built environment specialism, or those who are interest in working in the field of project management.

The successful candidate will be a good communicator who is willing to work as part of a small team and manage a wide variety of day to day, project-level tasks whilst working under the direction of other team members. Duties will include;

  • Attending key meetings and taking minutes/notes and taking on responsibility for the completion of project actions and tasks.
  • Producing summary reports and documents – drawing data from appropriate data sources and other materials.
  • Supporting financial processes – raising invoices for completed work, updating spreadsheets
  • Supporting other members of staff – booking appointments, meeting and making arrangements
  • Supporting community engagement and communication activities.

Employability Support:

The successful candidate will gain valuable insight in to the complexities of progressing, managing and delivering a complex urban regeneration programme. They will also get an insight in to Project Management processes and techniques.
The candidate will also be encouraged and supported in attending webinars and other events which will be of interest and use to the candidate in their future career.

Mentoring and regular 1:1’s will be provided by other members of the Liveable Exeter Project team – including the Programme Director. This mentoring will provide support to ensure the placement is successful, but will also encourage and support the candidate in considering their future career and opportunities/steps to progress their career.

Where support is required in relation to overarching employability and work skills, this will be arranged in line with the offer made to all Kickstart placements at Exeter City Council.

Person Specification:

Educated to degree level with a minimum degree classification of 2:2.
A qualification relating to property, planning or another built environment specialism would be preferred, but is not essential.
