1. Overview

The Lord Mayor's main role is to represent, support and promote the businesses and the people of Exeter.

The Lord Mayor is elected each year from the 39 city councillors, and is supported by a Deputy Lord Mayor. The Lord Mayor is non political during their year of office. The Deputy Lord Mayor remains politically active.

The Lord Mayor and their Deputy attend more than 600 functions and civic events during the year. These events:

  • raise funds for their own chosen charity

The Lord Mayor will also host foreign visitors, including businessmen and dignitaries and guests from our twin cities, promoting foreign investment and business links.
