Homeless services

Sleeping rough is dangerous and bad for people’s health at any time of year, but naturally it becomes an even greater concern in freezing weather conditions.

When we activate our Severe Weather protocol we work very closely with our partners Julian House, BCHA and St Petrocks to ensure that provision is available for all rough sleepers. Despite all efforts some rough sleepers will not taken up the offer of accommodation and may choose to remain on the streets.

If you see anyone rough sleeping in Exeter over the coming days we would advise members of the public of the following options

  • If you feel comfortable to do so please ask the person rough sleeping if they are okay

  • Ask if they are aware of the additional services and if they have been offered a bedspace

  • If you suspect that they may be seriously unwell please contact emergency services immediately on 999

  • You can also notify services if you suspect someone is rough sleeping through contacting the StreetLink service via www.streetlink.org.uk or by phoning 0300 500 0914. Your notification will then be forwarded to the Exeter-based outreach service

  • As an alternative to the above you can also contact the Exeter City Council Out of Hours number on 01392 265147.

We would like to ensure the Public that services are doing all they possibly can to ensure that as many people are assisted to come off the street and access secure accommodation.
