Our services

Exeter City Council is responsible for naming and numbering new or existing streets and buildings in Exeter.

The main consideration is that addresses are quick and easy to find by the Emergency Services and Royal Mail.

Without a registered address, it can be difficult to open bank accounts or obtain credit. You can check your if address is registered with Royal Mail.

Applications for new addresses should be submitted as soon as possible after planning permission is granted.

Occasionally existing properties are missing from Royal Mail's official postal address file. These properties can be registered, however, a particular postcode cannot be guaranteed. Issuing the postcode is the responsibility of Royal Mail. If you wish to notify us of an existing address registered with this authority but not on Royal Mail's postal address file please contact us online.

Please note, there is no charge for this service.
