Council-owned housing

A number of measures have been taken to reduce the carbon footprint of our Council-owned housing, in line with the Carbon reduction plan, including:

  • Retrofit programme to be rolled out to all Council owned residential properties as part of ‘fabric first’ strategy, with the inclusion of PV installation and smart heating controls. Worst performing properties (from an EPC perspective) to be targeted initially. 426 residential properties retrofitted so far by Summer 2022.
  • Analysis of non-traditional properties being completed – structural condition now known to be sound and design plans are being prepared to maximise building fabric thermal efficiency.
  • New rented Council housing currently continues to be delivered to Passivhaus standard – a 53 bed extra care scheme was completed in 2022.
