5. Jo Yelland BEM - Director

Jo Yelland

Following a varied and successful public sector career at national, regional and local levels across the NHS and Local Authorities in England and the Channel Islands, Jo took up her post in the City Council in July 2017.

As a Strategic Director Jo has led a wide range of service and corporate functions over the previous 7 years and is a member of the Council’s Strategic Management Board. Jo’s core purpose is in working with members, staff, customers, stakeholders and external partners developing and implementing vision, values and corporate strategy of the Council.  Jo is currently leading on the design and delivery of Customer, Digital, and Corporate Transformation Strategies.

In 2022 Jo completed a yearlong secondment to Exeter City Futures (CIC) leading on the strategic challenges of the City’s Net Zero Roadmap. In 2022 Jo joined the Board of Strata Services Ltd and is now the Chair of the Board and is leading the transformation of the ICT business model to enable the local authority owners to deliver on their ambitious digital, customer, financial and organisational change strategies.  

Jo is a member of the Local Government Association’s Peer Review and Transformation Experts programmes and is a qualified Level 7 Executive Leadership Coach and Mentor.

Jo also provides strategic leadership for the City’s 10 year old, ground-breaking Wellbeing Exeter Alliance and received a British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2021 for this work.
