3. Make a freedom of information request
Use this form to request information about our activities or the services we provide. You can also use this form to ask us to look at CCTV footage in the case of potential criminal activities in public spaces.
Wherever possible, we will try to respond to your request within 20 working days. When this isn't possible, we will contact you and tell you when we will be able to provide you with a response. We will always try to respond fully to your request. But there may be some information that we do not make available because it is protected by statutory legislation. For example; personal or confidential information. We may make a charge for the information you have requested. Where this is the case, we will inform you before we release the information.
Requests for information relating to the following should be made to Devon County Council:
- schools
- education
- children’s services
- trading standards
- libraries
- social care (eg care homes)
- highways
If you would like to access information relating to you personally, please submit a ‘subject access request’ under the Data Protection Act.

In accordance with our responsibility under the Data Protection Act, you should be aware that the personal information you are giving will be held and may be passed to other services of the Council, so that you are provided with the best possible support.
We may share your information with external organisations or individuals where we have a legal obligation to do so, for example, to prevent and detect fraud and corruption.
We will not use your personal information for direct marketing purposes, unless we have specifically informed you that we will.
