About you

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the law and enthusiastic and motivated to work towards qualification as a Solicitor. You will need to demonstrate that you have the drive, determination, and commitment to succeed in a dynamic and stimulating environment.

About the role

The Solicitor Apprenticeship is a structured 6 year programme of study and practical work-based training leading to qualification as a solicitor.

The apprenticeship will be a combination of practical training and real experience four days per week with the legal team. You will report to the Service Lead for Legal Services, and with the support and guidance of our team of lawyers you will develop your skills in many areas of law including civil, criminal and commercial litigation, housing, commercial property, planning, contracts and procurement. You will also study part time (one day per week) and work towards an LLB (Hons) degree in Law and Legal practice with the University of Law.

Following successful completion of your degree, you will take the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) leading to your qualification as a solicitor.

All your tuition fees will be paid. This is a paid post and you will also be entitled to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Entry requirements: You must have achieved or be predicted at least 3 A Levels at Grade C or above or equivalent and 5 GCSEs grades 9-4 including English and Maths.

Legal Services provides legal advice and assistance to officers and members on Council business. We are here to assist the Council in achieving its aims and objectives in a legal and compliant manner.
