Service Unit:Markets & Facilities
Permanent: 37 hours per week
The Matford Centre is a venue managed by Exeter City Council on the outskirts of the city centre. The venue is primarily a Livestock Centre but is also used for large events with conference facilities and is the base for organising markets within the city. We now need to recruit someone to a key position within our small team.
The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for maintaining the facility, grounds and supervising events/conference rooms at the venue (and occasionally elsewhere) ensuring that events are run properly in respect of the public, staff, hirers and contractors.
The appointed person will need to be able to deputise for the centre manager and regularly supervise the farmers market in the city centre and other staff at the venue, and get involved with all aspects of the venue’s operation. You will need to take responsibility for the security of the venue including key holder and to ensure that health & safety requirements are met. You will also need to possess some basic IT and administration skills.
You will need to be very flexible because you will be involved in all aspects of the operation of the centre and markets including setting up/taking down stalls at the farmers market, setting up events at the Matford Centre and the Corn Exchange, and ensuring that the building remains clean, tidy and safe. Customer/tenant liaison will be an important part of the role so we are seeking someone with excellent customer care skills. In short we are looking for an all rounder who can add to the qualities of our small and conscientious team.
This role is full time 5 days from 7 days (usually 5 days a week) and this will include some weekend work and very occasionally evenings.
In summary you will be responsible for carry out the following tasks:
- Supervising Events
- Maintaining & cleaning the facility
- Grounds maintenance
- Supervising farmers market (including setting up market stalls)
- Operating machinery
- Preparing and cleaning meeting rooms
- Basic administration
- Tenant liaison
This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to secure an interesting and varied role; you will be involved in all aspects of facilities management. You will also enjoy the benefits of working for Exeter City Council - an organisation that encourages personal development and strives to achieve excellence in public service.
