2. General Fire Safety

As well as Fire Safety measures we (as your landlord) have in place, there are things you can do to be fire safe, protect yourself and your possessions. These include:

  • Testing your Smoke Detectors on a weekly basis
  • Informing us if any Smoke Detectors do not work or are missing.
  • Report any faulty electrical installations to us.
  • Do not overload or overextend sockets.
  • Always ensure that candles are secured in a stable holder and never leave them to burn on their own and make sure they are extinguished before going to bed or leaving the property.
  • Never leave cooking unattended.
  • Do not dry clothes directly on portable heaters or open fires
  • Please ensure you put out cigarettes properly and never smoke in bed
  • Always charge E-Bikes, E-Scooters and Mobility Scooters outside and away from the premises.
  • Do not keep your (or your visitor’s) E-Bikes, E-Scooters and Mobility Scooters) in your home or adjacent to your home.
  • Do not use or store bottled gas in the property.
  • Be aware of refracted light caused by mirrors and glass objects by windows or directly in sunlight.
  • Plan an escape route for you and your family to use in the event of a fire.

If you are concerned, worried or have queries regarding the fire safety in your home, you can contact the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service to request a free home safety visit.
