Guide to Setting up a Residents’ Association

Show all parts of this guide

2. What is a Residents’ Association?

A residents’ association is a group of people who live within the same local area and work together to represent the views of the households and improve the neighbourhood.

There are many reasons why you might want to start a residents’ association in your neighbourhood, such as:

  • Trying to solve problems that affect residents in their area.
  • Helping to make their neighbourhood a better place to live through campaigning for environmental improvements or through organising community events and creating a sense of community spirit.
  • Helping to promote local activities such as Neighbourhood Watch.

They are also an opportunity for residents to participate in, and help shape, the policies and procedures of Exeter City Council.
