Planning permission

Statutory planning consultation

The new bus station received conditional outline planning permission on 20 January 2016. This permission determined the new location of the bus station and its overall footprint in line with the established planning policy and the Bus and Coach Station Development Principles.

Further statutory consultation took place during the reserved matters application, which sought approval for the detailed design of the bus station. A presentation to the public took place during an exhibition at the Guildhall on 14 June 2016.

Permission for the reserved matters application was granted on 5 October 2016.

3 March 2016 - Open forum

Around 650 people attended our initial consultation event at The Corn Exchange to give their views on:

  • user facilities
  • coach arrangements
  • on street bus stops
  • arrangements during construction

We received more than 500 completed feedback forms, which is a tremendous response. The findings have been analysed and passed to the design team and architects who are looking at how the many suggestions and ideas might be incorporated in the detailed designs. A summary of the feedback and suggestions and how these have informed the design process will be presented at the 14th June event.

You can view the display boards used at the open forum below.

Analysis of the feedback from the Open Forum held on 3rd March 2016 is available below.
