Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme

Are you ready?

Full fibre broadband connections offer the fastest and most reliable speeds available. The government is committed to a vision of a full fibre Britain. As part of this commitment in March 2018 a £67 million Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme was announced.

Gigabit vouchers can be used by small and medium sized businesses and the local communities surrounding them to contribute to the installation cost of a gigabit capable connection.

Businesses can claim up to £3,000 against the cost of connection either individually or as part of a group project. Residents can benefit from the scheme as part of a group project which also includes businesses, and can claim for a voucher of up to a value of £1500.

One gigabit is the same as 1,000 megabits. It’s a big leap forward in connection speeds that could benefit you and your business into the future.

Councillor Rachel Sutton, Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture at Exeter City Council said:

“Exeter City Council are promoting this excellent scheme which will help the city become future-ready. Being a gigabit city would strengthen our ability to compete internationally and would provide further incentives to digitech companies looking to relocate to the city.

“Increasing the provision of gigabit broadband will prepare Exeter for the future and supports our aim to be an analytical city. We will be working across the SME business community over the coming months to identify areas currently experiencing connectivity challenges.”

Full fibre connections are faster, more reliable and cheaper to operate than traditional copper lines. They are capable of supporting not only gigabit, but terabit and even petabit speeds. This will serve the UK far into the future. Currently only around 3% of UK premises have access to a full fibre connection.

The scheme forms part of Government’s commitment to make full fibre broadband available to at least 10 million homes and businesses by 2022.

More details about whether you are eligible for a voucher and to connect you to a full fibre broadband supplier are available.
