1. Pollution inspection and regulation
The environmental protection section aims to protect public health and the environment. Achieved through enforcement of legislation and the provision of advice, information and education. In particular they will:
- fulfil our statutory duties in relation to industrial pollution control. Under the Environmental Permitting Regulations (2007) on pollution control - pollution prevention and control
- fulfil our statutory duties in relation to contaminated land. Under Part II A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 on pollution control - contaminated land
- fulfil our statutory duties in relation to air quality management. Under Part IV of the Environment Act 1995 on air pollution
- respond to and investigate public complaints and other requests for service on noise complaints
- work in partnership or in co-operation with the Environment Agency, Devon Partnership NHS Trust, DEFRA, other departments and external agencies
- act as a statutory consultee for our planning service
