The environmental protection section aims to protect public health and the environment. Achieved through enforcement of legislation and the provision of advice, information and education. In particular they will:

• fulfil our statutory duties in relation to industrial pollution control. Under the Environmental Permitting Regulations (2007) on pollution control - pollution prevention and control
• fulfil our statutory duties in relation to contaminated land. Under Part II A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 on pollution control - contaminated land
• fulfil our statutory duties in relation to air quality management. Under Part IV of the Environment Act 1995 on air pollution
• respond to and investigate public complaints and other requests for service on noise complaints
• work in partnership or in co-operation with the Environment Agency, Devon Partnership NHS Trust, DEFRA, other departments and external agencies
• act as a statutory consultee for our planning service
