Exeter Jobs Fair - Sep 2017

Exeter’s new jobs fair was held on Friday 15 September at a central city location in Exeter’s Corn Exchange.  It was organised by Job Centre Plus and Exeter City Council with nearly 60 businesses and organisations attending to promote their current vacancies.

Eager job-seekers had formed a long queue well before the doors opened at 9.30am, and within minutes IKEA had a line of people waiting to speak to them about opportunities when their new store opens in the spring. The Lord Mayor of Exeter opened the fair by welcoming the businesses and thanking them for spending their valuable time to help make the day a success. By the time the fair closed, around 1800 people had visited the wide range of businesses.

Exeter has the fourth fastest-growing economy in the UK and this was apparent at the fair with representation from sectors such as engineering, hospitality, retail, manufacturing, construction, cleaning services, apprenticeships, and security personnel.  A range of recruitment agencies also attended offering an even wider range of opportunities for Exeter-based businesses.

The event was well received and judged to have been a success, one that will be repeated in spring 2018. Feedback from employers exhibiting and people attending will be used to make improvements to future fairs. The results of the feedback will also include information on the local impact of the jobs fair – how many people were offered and secured a job.

Next year’s date to be confirmed – watch this space!
