Flag flying

During the Mourning Period the Union Flag at the Historic Guildhall and the Cathedral will be lowered to half-mast.

When the British national flag is at half-mast, other flags on the same stand of poles should also be at half-mast or should not be flown at all. Flags of foreign nations should not be flown unless their country is also observing mourning.

On the Proclamation Day, the day when the new Sovereign is proclaimed, flags will be flown at the Mast-head from 11.00am to coincide with the reading of the Principal Proclamation and until 1.00pm the following day when they will be lowered to half-mast until 8.00am on the day after the state funeral.
