What can I do?

Sowing seeds

There are many ways you can help to increase biodiversity within the City:

  • Extend “No Mow May” – Mow paths and edges for “managed” effect
  • Plant a wildflower area – Mix annuals and perennials
  • Street facing? Plant up window boxes / garden walls, phytosensors and pollinators
  • Green roofs – Sheds, garages, bin stores
  • Green Walls – Climbers
  • De-pave - If 30 million gardeners pulled up a paver and planted 1m² of perennial plants (either herbaceous, shrubs or trees) in their community, school, workplace or garden and allowed it to develop to maturity, depending on the plants grown this would be equivalent to heating between 86,000 to more than one million homes for a year. • Hedgehog holes in fencing, bird / bat boxes, log piles, bug hotels. Leave seed heads over winter
  • Hedge Cutting – Reduce twice / year cuts, look at biennial / triennial cutting for food, shelter. Leave over winter to allow berries, etc
  • Volunteer – Devon Wildlife Trust, Community Groups.
