2. Apply for street collection licence

When you fill in the application you'll need to tell us:

  • your details
  • the charity, fund or organisation to benefit
  • your preferred dates, hours and location for collecting
  • if you are promoting this collection alongside a house-to- house collection
  • how many people you plan to authorise as collectors

We must receive your application at least 28 days before the collection date

If you wish to collect in the Princesshay/Bedford Square area or the Guildhall Shopping Centre in addition to your permit you will require permission from them individually. Alternatively if you wish to collect on private land you will not require a permit from the Licensing Authority, but you will need permission from the land owner.

More info about the journey

If you're collecting for a charity you'll need to know the registered charity number.

You'll need a form of statement to complete after the collection as explained above.

When we receive your application we'll check it to make sure it's been completed correctly. We'll telephone you if there is anything else we need.

We'll send you your street collection permit in the post.  The permit will show:

  • the name and address of the organisation you are collecting for
  • the dates the permit is valid for
  • the collection areas authorised
  • the maximum number of collectors allowed

You'll need to supply us with a return form no later than one month after the collection. This must be certified by a qualified accountant.

You can fill in a paper version of the form and send it to us in the post or bring it into our office.

You'll need to contact us online (select Licensing) first to check the dates and times when you want to carry out your collection. We'll make you a provisional booking and send you the application form to fill in.
