What can I put in my bins?

Show all parts of this guide

3. What if I have too much waste for my container?

Recycling

Please put extra recycling in a sack or sacks and label each sack with the first line of your address and the word 'recycling'. Alternatively, you can use clear sacks. Put these sacks out beside your green bin on your recycling collection day.

Sacks must be securely tied to prevent materials being spilled on your street.

Please note: our crews can only take clear sacks or sacks that are labelled as recycling.

If you regularly have extra recycling, you can order an extra or larger bin free of charge.

Rubbish

We limit the size of black bin households can have. This is to increase recycling and cut the significant public costs associated with rubbish disposal.

Our crews will not take any rubbish that is not contained within the bin with the lid closed. This means they will leave side waste and you will need to arrange for disposal of it yourself. Similarly, they will not empty an additional bin unless there is an approved application for additional capacity showing on their in-cab system.

By recycling everything you can and using your black bin as directed, the capacity of the bin should be enough. However, if you still have concerns, please contact us.
