Food waste collections take place weekly. This means they will occur on both your green bin and black bin collection weeks.

Why are we introducing food waste collections?

Food waste is a major contributor to the climate crisis.

While we encourage everyone to reduce their food waste by only buying what they will consume, adding a food waste collection service will help the planet by turning wasted food into soil-improver while generating gas and electricity.

The service will also boost the city’s recycling rate. Currently, food collected in the black bin is burned at the Energy Recovery Facility in Marsh Barton.

Other areas of the city will be added as we roll the service out further, but we are unable at present to confirm a timetable for these areas. It is important that our staff can continue providing support to other residents in a timely manner.
