Key priority: Get People Active

We would like to support local projects that make it easier for people to be more active. This may include walking, dance and running groups, exercise groups for older people and children’s activity sessions.

Physical activity is important across all ages. Active play and recreation is important for early childhood as well as for healthy growth and development in young people. While at the same time, older adults, in particular, can benefit from regular physical activity to maintain physical, mental and social health and enable healthy ageing.

We know that being active in everyday life brings wider benefits to individuals and communities.

Projects that have been supported that focus on getting people active

Stoke Hill Girls Under 15’s Football Team – A local football team with the aim to get girls from local areas involved in sports, giving them the opportunity to be part of a team based club, improving their fitness and mental well-being.

Exwick Cricket Club – A local cricket club that currently runs men’s, women’s, children’s training and a ladies softball team, all of which encourage participants to improve their fitness & wellbeing.

Pinhove Albion FC – A football club, that teaches children important life lessons through team building and football related games and drills.

Oakfields Grow Our Own project – This is a project run by group of people living in hostel housing rebuilding their lives, they grow their own fruits and vegetables as it encourages social skills, cooperation, ownership of living spaces and has a positive effect on mental health. The project additionally helps reduce carbon footprint as own fruits and vegetables are grown and compost that can be reused is created.
