Self-build and custom housebuilding

2. What is the self-build and custom house building register?

The Government wants to enable more people to build or commission their own homes. The self-build and custom house building register will provide an indication of demand for self/custom build in our Council area that can be used when developing housing and planning policies.

From 1 April 2016 we are required to keep a register of people looking for land in in our Council area on which to build their own homes and to 'have regard' to it in our planning, housing and regeneration functions and when disposing of any of our land. For full details please see the Self-build and Custom Housebuilding Act 2015.

Future legislation and guidance may compel us to require or seek further information.
