J

Jar lids

Recycle these in your green bin: steel (magnetic), placed inside a steel food can. You can also leave them on the jars and recycle them at the recycling banks, but Exeter won’t benefit from the sale of the metal.

Leave these on the jar and recycle them through the recycling banks: aluminium (non-magnetic).

Jars

Take these to a recycling bank.

Jiffy bags (padded envelopes)

Place these in your black bin: bubble wrap padded (unless materials can be separated and each put in the green bin).

Recycle these in your green bin: paper padded.

Junk mail

Recycle this in your green bin.

You can register with Royal Mail’s Door to Door Opt Out Service for non-addressed junk mail.

You can also register with the Mailing Preference Service, which can remove your name from up to 95% of Direct Mail lists.

Kitchen roll tubes

Recycle these in your green bin.

Kitchen sponges

Place these in your black bin.

Kitchen spray bottles

Separate the nozzle/pump and recycle the bottle in your green bin.

Place the nozzle/pump in your black bin unless you can find a return scheme (check online).

Kitchen towel (tissue)

Place this in your black bin.


 

L

Labels (plastic or paper, on milk bottles and other recyclable items)

Leave these on the packet and recycle them in your green bin.

Laminated paper

Place this in your black bin.

Lamps

Take these to a recycling centre.

Lids (metal)

Aluminium (non-magnetic): Leave these on the jar and take them to a recycling bank

Steel (magnetic), placed inside a steel food can: Recycle these in your green bin.

Lids (plastic)

Leave these on the bottle and recycle them in your green bin.

Light bulbs (energy-saving)

Take these to a recycling centre or to a bulb banks and some shops.

Light bulbs (fluorescent)

Take these to a recycling centre.

Recycle these in your green bin.

Magazine wrappers

Polythene: Recycle these in your green bin.

Biodegradable or industrially compostable: Place these in your black bin.

Home-compostable: Compost these in your home composter if you can (otherwise place them in your black bin).

Margarine tubs

Recycle these in your green bin.

Mattress

Take these to a recycling centre. They can’t be recycled, due to the mix of materials in them, but they may be resalable if they have the correct fireproof labels and are unsoiled.

Mattress protector

Place this in your black bin or take it to a recycling centre for disposal.

Meat trays (foam/polystyrene)

Place these in your black bin.

Meat trays (plastic)

Recycle these in your green bin.
