Private tenants handbook

Show all parts of this guide

1. Overview

We recognise the importance of the private rented sector in helping to meet local housing need. We want to encourage high standards in this sector to ensure it provides safe and decent homes for local individuals and families.

Here you will find information for private tenants covering many aspects of renting privately from finding a home, to what health and safety issues to consider all the way through to ending a tenancy.

It can be used as a reference to help avoid problems when renting and where to find help if something goes wrong.
